Seven Harsh Truths About the Blogging Industry

A lot of wide-eyed dreamers out there see blogging as their golden ticket to fame and glory. Better think twice if you belong with that group of people because you're dead wrong. This industry is far from being made up of rainbows and butterflies.

There's nothing wrong with being optimistic with the journey ahead but you also need to familiarize yourself with the realities of life. The following are seven harsh truths you need to know about the blogging industry. Prepare for them and increase your chances of surviving this world.

1.You're not always free to express yourself

While it's true that the very purpose of writing is to express oneself, you can't simply expect the web readers of today to swallow in everything that comes out of your mind. A lot of people on the Internet nowadays are picky. You've got to deliver something fresh to them. Otherwise, they would just dismiss your blog post and look for something better.

2. There are times when you need to fit in

Indeed, being unique and original on the Internet helps people notice you out. However, you still have to find a line where you and your readers would be able to connect. Relevance is very important online.

Writing about trending topics every now and then is also a necessity. You need to get a feel of what people are clamoring about and attack there. To put it bluntly, you will be forced to fit in with others.

3. True bloggers are thick skinned

Say goodbye to your dreams of being a world-renowned blogger if you can't take the heat. There's no place for crybabies in the blogging industry. There will be tons of bashers and trolls along the way. You either deal with them or downright quit.

4. Learning is an everyday process

The only way to get ahead of the curve when you're in this industry is by delivering innovative topics. You can only do that by constantly learning, observing and adapting. In short, rest is for the weak when you're a blogger.

5. Knowing basic SEO is a must

Search engine optimization is the only way to improve your blog's position on the daily SERPs. The best bloggers know the importance of tweaking their pages for SEO purposes. They don't include anything that could be considered counterproductive to their site's ranking and visibility.

Needless to say, knowing basic SEO moves such as keyword research, veering away from copied content and writing effective meta descriptions is now a requirement.

6. Running out of ideas is an ordinary thing

You're gravely mistaken if you think you could write for two months straight and never run out of ideas. You're bound to exhaust your creativeness in this industry. Your tank will eventually empty itself, one way or another. This means you need to be resourceful by utilizing new angles on used topics in order to provide freshness in your future posts.

7. Be prepared to be the number one fan of your own blog

No one is going to love your blog more than you do. Readers will come and go but you will be there through thick and thin. Be prepared to market your articles tirelessly. This is going to be your life now and you might as well make every moment count, right?

The journey to greatness when you're in the blogging industry isn't going to be easy. Steel yourself, take heart and keep on experimenting when you have the opportunity to do so. Remember that good things happen to people who work and wait.
